Never Give Up
On Friday, I arrived home to find a copy of Ireland's Own in the mail. I was rather bemused, as I hadn't ordered it, and don't subscribe to the title.
After thinking about it for a while, I remembered sending them a short story a while ago - turns out the magazine in the post was a complimentary copy, and it contains my story 'Social Networking'.
The story was rejected by several other short story magazines, but finally found a home where it was accepted, which also shows that what one editor rejects, another likes.
It's easy in the face of rejections and lack of progress to give up, but on those days that you see your work in print, it makes it all worth while.
The easy part is always the writing - getting published is the real challenge.
Keep on trying, and look continually for new markets, keep honing your craft, until you find that editor, the one that says 'yes'.
