Tracking your work

08/24/2015

If you are writing, and submitting your work for publication, then you need to keep track of what you send where. Nothing screams unprofessional more than repeatedly sending the same piece to the same editor.

There are a range of ways of doing this. I like access, and have created my own database for this purpose. If you are competent in access, and would like a copy, contact me, and I'd be happy to share it, but any further development will be up to you.

If you prefer Excel, you could try this one designed by Jamie Rubin:

Duotrope Digest has a submission tracker, but you will need to sign up to the site to use it, and after the free trial, they charge $5 per month.

Luminary have a free submission tracker: https://www.writersdb.com/

And another free one to try: https://thegrinder.diabolicalplots.com/

Many of these are tied into their databases, and have members contributing information, so are not only able to help you with keeping track of your submissions, but they can also help you find the right market, and give you an idea of response times.
